First, a quick intro to why we are here
Hi, I’m Colette, a designer & artist
During a recent move, I stumbled upon a box full of drawings, journal entries, and stories I wrote when I was a kid. It made me realize why I started to make art in the first place — for fun.
The concept of “fun” isn’t something I think much about anymore when creating art.
Over the years I’ve felt pressure (as I’m sure many creators have) to develop a distinct style, curate deep meaning behind each piece, and work as quickly and efficiently as possible.
I think and rethink creative concepts, dismantling my ideas before they even have a chance to hit the paper — my personal cycle of creative paralysis.
I’ve even thought about this very moment, the cursor blinking on a blank page. What exactly would I say? But I could never thread my words together in just the right way to present to the public.
Yet here I am, because someone recently said to me “Progress over perfection,” and I’m putting it to practice.
So here you are, a witness to my progress, and the beginnings of the Canvas Chronicles.
So what exactly are the Canvas Chronicles?
A weekly art challenge where there is only one rule:
I have to find my canvas
Think old frames, reclaimed wood, furniture, clothes, anything that can be drawn or painted on. I can buy it. It just can’t be new.
What’s the point?
The root of creating art (at least my root) — for fun.
What can we expect?
I’ll be sending out a weekly newsletter every Monday detailing my ventures to finding a canvas, my artwork inspiration, process, and the finished piece.
So now what?
